ESPN.com's Miami Dolphins page continues to rank the team's top 40 players.
Next up is Nos. 13-16.
No. 16: Samson Satele
Position: Center
2014 stats: 16 starts
Analysis: Satele was quite a success story for the Dolphins in 2014. He was a player no team wanted in free agency. But Miami Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey suffered a major hip injury in the summer and the team needed someone in a pinch. Satele proved to be a smart, durable player who started all 16 games. The Dolphins kept Satele at center and moved Pouncey to guard even after Pouncey’s return in order to keep the best five offensive linemen on the field. Satele will be an unrestricted free agent in March. He may not fit in Miami with Pouncey going back to his natural position. But Satele should be able to find a job easier after his solid performance last season.
No. 15: Koa Misi
Position: Linebacker
2014 stats: 66 tackles, one sack
Analysis: The Dolphins moved Misi to middle linebacker last season with mixed results. He was pretty steady in the middle when healthy, but Misi played missed five games due to injuries. Still, Misi is a favorite of the coaching staff for his consistent play and usually grades well. Miami will be making changes at linebacker for next season, but Misi could still be in the mix.
No. 14: Ja’Wuan James
Position: Offensive tackle
2014 stats: 16 starts
Analysis: The Dolphins could not have asked for more from James, who was the team’s first-round draft pick. Not only did James start at right tackle right away, but he also played the final seven games at left tackle due to the season-ending knee injury to former Pro Bowler Branden Albert. Naturally, James had some struggles on the left side, which is the most demanding position. But he didn’t embarrass himself. James should thrive in moving back to right tackle in Year 2. He’s a solid building block on the offensive line.
No. 13: Charles Clay
Position: Tight end
2014 stats: 58 receptions, 605 yards, three touchdowns
Analysis: Clay didn’t have the season he wanted in 2014. He played 14 games, but he was struggling through a lingering knee injury in at least half of those games. That impacted Clay’s explosiveness, but he still finished third on the team in receptions. Clay is arguably the Dolphins’ biggest free agent. He had a career year in 2013, but it will be interesting to see how Miami values him this offseason.
