Ryan Tannehill having much easier week

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill can rest easy for the next two weeks. Those are the perks that come from playing well and helping produce a, 38-14, blowout victory over the Oakland Raiders.

Just a week ago it was a much different story for Tannehill. Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin refused to publicly endorse the third-year quarterback as the starter after a trio of mediocre games. That created national headlines and plenty of distractions for Tannehill leading into last Sunday's contest.

"Well, it feels a little different. I'm not going to lie on that," Tannehill said this week. "But it feels good. It is a step in the positive direction for us, for myself and for the offense, for the team. We needed to go over there and come out with a victory, and we were able to do that."

Tannehill completed 23 of 31 passes for 278 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Tannehill also added 35 rushing yards and finished with a season-high 109.3 passer rating. It was only the fifth time in Tannehill's 36 career starts that he reached triple digits in passer rating.

Miami's starting quarterback said he doesn't have any special bye week plans. He finally has some momentum going this year and will need it matching throws with Green Bay Packers (2-2) counterpart Aaron Rodgers on Oct. 12. After that, the Dolphins will travel to play the Chicago Bears (2-2) in Week 7 to cap a tough two-week stretch.

The AFC East appears wide open this year with none of the four teams off to winning starts in the month of September. Tannehill knows much of Miami's success rests on his ability to be consistent.

"I think getting back to .500 was huge for us," Tannehill said. "Obviously, we didn't play well the two previous weeks I think as a team, not just offensively. To play well and to have some momentum, some confidence going into the bye week and this big stretch we have coming up."
