Warriors 110, Clippers 106: Rivalry revs up

LOS ANGELES -- The ongoing rivalry between the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors seemingly gains a captivating new chapter every time the two teams step onto the court.

Even though both teams would like to pretend there's nothing extraordinary about their dislike for one another, they just can't help but proving each other wrong.

Take, for example, what happened before Tuesday when the Warriors beat the Clippers 110-106. When Clippers coach Doc Rivers was asked about Draymond Green sitting the game out with inflammation in his shins, Rivers said, "That was pretty predictable. They didn't want to take the risk of going 2-2 [in the season series] with their regular guys. You could pretty much predict they weren't going to play everybody."

It was an odd shot to fire just before the start of the game, and Warriors coach Steve Kerr couldn't help but smile when relayed Rivers' comments.

"Oh, is that right?" Kerr said. "Either that or we have a nine-game lead and a couple guys banged up. Somewhere in there."

It was a great "shots fired" moment but paled in comparison to the frenzy that was caused on the Internet when Stephen Curry crossed over Chris Paul for a basket in the first half, setting off a series of memes that were trending worldwide. And despite finishing the game with 27 points and nine assists, Paul was also called for a backcourt violation as the Clippers attempted to cut the Warriors' lead to one with nine seconds left. It was a forgettable ending to a forgettable night for Paul and the Clippers but another chapter in the Clippers-Warriors rivalry.
