LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul was named Western Conference Player of the Week, the NBA announced Monday.

Paul won the award for games played Dec. 17-Dec. 23 and becomes the second Clippers player to earn the award this month. Blake Griffin was honored the first week of December. It is the first time in franchise history two Clippers have won the award in the same month.

Paul helped lead the Clippers to a 4-0 record week while averaging 16.3 points, a conference-leading 11.3 assists and 3.5 steals. Paul posted three double-doubles (points and assists) and had two games with five steals as the Clippers established a new franchise record with 13 straight wins.

"The key has been consistency," Paul said after practice on Monday. "It's tough to win two or three games in a row in this league and for us to win it shows how well we're playing as a team. During the current streak a lot of different guys have had big games. It's good."

Paul, 27, became the third youngest player in NBA history behind Magic Johnson and Isaiah Thomas to record his 5,000th career assist when he accomplished the feat on Dec. 19 against the New Orleans Hornets.

"Chris is all about winning," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "He deserves it. Blake's had it. When you win, good things happen, all the accolades come, but Chris is about team first and winning and that's why he's one of the top players in the league."
