Clippers 106, Blazers 102: Redick scores 30

LOS ANGELES -- It’s hard to call the sixth game of the season a turning point but if the Los Angeles Clippers break out of their early-season funk moving forward, Saturday’s 106-102 comeback win over the Portland Trail Blazers might be just that. The Clippers were down by 14 points in the second quarter and seemed destined to fall to 3-3 on the season before J.J. Redick hit a buzzer-beater before halftime and outscored Portland 26-17 in the third quarter before holding on for the win at the end.

Shakeup of the night: Doc Rivers shook up his starting lineup before the game, taking out Matt Barnes and starting last season’s Sixth Man of the Year, Jamal Crawford. While Crawford scored 20 points and put the game away late with two key free throws, Barnes had only four points in 24 minutes as the second unit only had five total points.

Surprise of the night: Redick had one of the best games of his career, scoring 30 points on 11-for-13 shooting, and finished just three points short of his career high. Redick had been averaging just 10 points per game coming into Saturday’s game and had not scored at least 20 points in a regular-season game since January.

Stat of the night: The Clippers finally did what they’ve been talking about doing on offense since training camp but had failed to do in a game. The played inside-out and didn’t rely on 3-pointers after shooting at least 30 per game to start the season. They hit 5-for-12 from beyond the arc while scoring 30 points in the paint.

Player of the game: Outside of Redick’s big game, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin both stepped up as well. Paul finished with 22 points and 11 assists while Griffin had 23 points and 6 rebounds while battling a stomach bug.
