John Lackey's five-year deal with Boston for, in effect, A.J. Burnett money strengthens an already solid rotation, returns the Red Sox to a setup where they have two or even three potential No. 1 starters in their rotation, and may signal a shift away from building a winner around a powerhouse offense toward one built around run prevention.
