Kansas City Chiefs cut 13 players, including Junior Hemingway, make two other roster moves

Most significant move: Wide receiver Junior Hemingway, who was released, was an early favorite of Andy Reid's after the coach's arrival in Kansas City. At 225 pounds, he was big for a slot receiver but Reid liked Hemingway's blocking ability, so he played a considerable amount during Reid's first season and a half with the Kansas City Chiefs. But Hemingway was frequently injured the last half of last season and played sparingly. Then he injured his hip early in training camp and hasn't practiced since. Meanwhile, with Jason Avant and De'Anthony Thomas as the slot receivers, Hemingway wasn't going to play much.

Keeping two young prospects: The Chiefs put quarterback Tyler Bray on the non-football injury list and linebacker Justin March on the injured reserve list, so the Chiefs will hang on to both players. The Chiefs like the ability of Bray, who tore his ACL playing basketball last winter. March, an undrafted rookie, played well in camp and the first preseason game before injuring his knee.

What's next: The Chiefs' roster is at 75 players. They have to make 22 more moves by Saturday to get to the limit of 53.

Chiefs moves: Non-football injury list: QB Tyler Bray; Injured reserve: LB Justin March; Waived: WR Kenny Cook, OT Anthony Dima, LS Andrew East, WR Junior Hemingway, CB Aaron Hester, DL Vaughn Martin, CB Kenneth Penny, G Marcus Reed, OL Tavon Rooks, TE Adam Schiltz, WR Jeret Smith, OL Charles Tuaau, WR L'Damian Washington.
