Smart move by Chiefs to extend Dontari Poe's contract

The Kansas City Chiefs made the smart decision in exercising their fifth-year option on the contract of nose tackle Dontari Poe.

Poe’s contract will now extend through the 2016 season. He will be paid a salary in 2016 of about $6.15 million. He is scheduled to make about $1.9 million this season.

That’s not bad money to pay a nose tackle who made the Pro Bowl in two of his first three NFL seasons.

"I think I learned a lot more," Poe said this week talking about his 2014 season. "I got a lot more in touch with it mentally, so that kind of made it easier for me, so I feel like if I keep progressing mentally, and everything keeps slowing down for me, it’ll be better and better."

The Chiefs have another key defensive lineman, Allen Bailey, under contract through the 2018 season.
