Got questions about the Jacksonville Jaguars? I’ll try to answer a representative selection of them every Saturday. Submit your questions via Twitter to @ESPNdirocco.
@ESPNdirocco one game or bigger things to come for Telvin Smith?
— Jimbro Fisher (@Jimbro_Fisher) October 23, 2014
@ESPNdirocco: I definitely think there are bigger things to come, but I hope people aren't expecting too much out of him the rest of the season because of his performance against Cleveland. He's still a rookie trying to find his way in the defense, still unsure of where he's supposed to be all the time, and relying on his athletic ability to compensate.
@ESPNdirocco do you think this could be the week we finally see Marques Lee be more involved in the offensive gameplan? #jagsquestion
— Jordan (@pledger35) October 23, 2014
@ESPNdirocco: As he continues to progress in his understanding of the offense he'll get more touches. He's still unsure of what adjustment he's supposed to make against certain coverages and needs to become more crisp and consistent in his route running. I think he's still a bit away from making a consistent impact.
@ESPNdirocco If the Jaguars were to be sellers before the trade deadline, who would they deal? #jagsquestion
— Justin Rasile (@justin_rasile) October 23, 2014
@ESPNdirocco: In order to make a trade you have to have something another team wants, and I don't think the Jaguars have any players that fit that bill -- at least players they'd be willing to give up, anyway. The only possibility is receiver Cecil Shorts, but GM David Caldwell has said he wants to keep Shorts in Jacksonville. Although I don't see the Jaguars making any moves by Tuesday's trade deadline, it wouldn't surprise me if they did. Caldwell has said he's always willing to listen to a team's offer.
@ESPNdirocco If Storm & Denard continue to improve, is there a chance Toby will be cut in the offseason? #JagsQuestion
— Letarte's Final 4 :( (@MattDearwent) October 23, 2014
@ESPNdirocco: Yes, but there's also a good chance the Jaguars keep him, too. Teams generally want three backs and if Denard Robinson and Storm Johnson develop as expected then the Jaguars could keep Toby Gerhart and not have to worry about addressing the position in the draft or free agency. There's a long way to go but it will be interesting to watch how Robinson and Johnson progress the rest of the season.
@ESPNdirocco have we seen the last if Poz in a jags uni? #jagsquestion
— Austin (@aus10jag) October 23, 2014
@ESPNdirocco: I don't think so. Paul Posluszny is under contract for two more years and while it is at a high-dollar figure ($9.5 million against the cap in 2015 and $7.5 million against the cap in 2016) the Jaguars are so far under the cap that those numbers shouldn't be a problem. Posluszny is a very good two-down linebacker and the defense's best player. The Jaguars will make upgrading linebacker a priority in the offseason but I expect Posluszny to be around for the 2015 season at least.
@ESPNdirocco #jagsquestion what's the future look Iike for @AColvin_22 getting into the db rotation and his impact?
— Winston Overton (@wjoverton) October 23, 2014
@ESPNdirocco: The plan is for him to get on the field sometime in November. The Jaguars have until the week of Nov. 10-14 to decide whether to place him on the active roster so he's got time to get his conditioning back and adjust to the new defense. It's one thing to learn it in the classroom. It's another to do it on the field.
@ESPNdirocco How much better is the jags pass rush from this year to last year? #jagsquestion
— William Zajan (@WilliamZajan) October 23, 2014
@ESPNdirocco: The Jaguars are third in the NFL with 22 sacks (Buffalo leads with 24), which is only nine shy of the 31 they posted last season. For the most part they've gotten consistent pressure on the quarterback but the loss of Andre Branch to a groin injury is going to hurt.
@ESPNdirocco #jagsquestion is denard our RB? or do you think last week was just a flash of talent and nothing long term?
— Zach Goodall (@zach_goodall) October 23, 2014
@ESPNdirocco: I can't answer that for sure until we see how Robinson does over the next several games. I don't think he's going to rush for 100-plus each week but I do believe he is the team's best option at that spot now. I was encouraged by how he ran the ball against Cleveland: He got tough yards, ran through contact, and broke tackles. If he continues to do that then he can be a part of the offense's foundation going forward.
@ESPNdirocco #jagsquestion I know how Coach Fisch feels on the matter but how good can Blake be? What's his ceiling? Too early to tell?
— Stuart (@Flying_Knight) October 23, 2014
@ESPNdirocco: It is way too early to tell how good Blake Bortles will be, but there are encouraging signs for Jaguars fans. He's a football junkie, has a great work ethic, and is very coachable and has the perfect demeanor. He's poised in the pocket, has a good feel for the game, and has the ability to quickly bounce back from a bad play.
