RTC: Rookie QBs playing sometimes works

Jaguars GM David Caldwell and coach Gus Bradley have been consistent about their plan for whatever quarterback they draft next month.

They're not getting on the field right away.

Caldwell and Bradley want the young quarterback to learn the offense, learn how to be a professional quarterback and get better without the pressure of having to win games. Other teams have adopted that strategy recently, too.

Sometimes, though, the trial-by-fire approach works, too, writes the Florida Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran.

"If you take a quarterback in the first round, you're taking your franchise and he's not going to learn anything by carrying a book," Arizona coach Bruce Arians said. "He won't get any reps in practice and you have to give him every rep in practice. You'll win only a few games early but then you see how they handle failure."

Here are some additional pieces of Jaguars-related content from around the Web in our Reading the Coverage feature:

T-U columnist Gene Frenette writes that the Jaguars should trade down and stockpile picks instead of picking a player at No. 3.

CBSSports.com's Pat Kirwan writes that if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers want Sammy Watkins they're probably going to have to work something out with the Jaguars for the No. 3 pick.

Peter King writes that Caldwell and Bradley really want a pass-rusher and the Jaguars are the likely landing spot for Jadeveon Clowney or Khalil Mack.
