Jaguars' Pancake Day tweet prompts response from Shawne Merriman

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Tuesday is apparently National Pancake Day -- not to be confused with IHOP's National Pancake Day on March 8 -- but the Jacksonville Jaguars didn't make it a happy one for former San Diego Chargers defensive end Shawne Merriman.

The team's official Twitter account sent out a tweet wishing their fans a Happy National Pancake Day and accompanied it with a clip of former running back Maurice Jones-Drew laying out Merriman with a violent block during a game between the teams in 2007.

Jones-Drew had the reputation as one of the league’s best backs at picking up the blitz, and the 5-foot-7, 210-pound Jones-Drew pancaked the 6-5, 272-pound Merriman on a play near the goal line during the Jaguars’ 24-17 victory in 2007. Jones-Drew’s block allowed David Garrard to complete an easy touchdown pass to tight end Marcedes Lewis.

Merriman, obviously, wasn't thrilled to see the tweet and it prompted a response from his official Twitter account:

Not a bad comeback considering Merriman could have taken the easy route and joked about Jones-Drew being a short stack.
