Got questions about the Jacksonville Jaguars? I’ll try to answer a representative selection of them every week. Submit your questions via Twitter to @ESPNdirocco.
On Sunday, I’ll answer the Question of the Week.
#jagsquestion is any other position besides edge rusher really in play with the #3 pick? @ESPNdirocco
— BRUHMAN (@thecaleb24) April 16, 2015
@ESPNdirocco: The only other position that seems realistic at No. 3 is wide receiver, and then it would only be Amari Cooper. The Jaguars aren't interested in any of the offensive tackles after signing Jermey Parnell. There aren't viable options at defensive tackle, linebacker or cornerback, either.
@ESPNdirocco do you think there's a chance for wiesnoski (sp?) or Jennings to sing when all there visits are complete? #jagsquestion
— Justin Cook (@ByJustinCook) April 16, 2015
@ESPNdirocco: Sure. It's a physically tiring process flying across the country and meeting with coaches and GMs and emotionally tiring because you don't know if and when you'll have a job, so I certainly can see them breaking out into song. Something festive, for sure ... oh, wait, you probably meant sign. I think there's a better chance of Stefen Wisniewski signing than Greg Jennings because Jennings is at the end of his career and I assume he's looking for an opportunity to play for a contender. (Sorry about the jokes. I couldn't resist.)
@ESPNdirocco #jagsquestion Is Colvin settling in at Corner? Who do you think emerges as the star of our 3 2nd yr WRs? (I say Robinson)
— Teality Check (@Tealitycheck) April 16, 2015
@ESPNdirocco: The Jaguars view Aaron Colvin as their nickelback, which is essentially a starter because defenses are in sub packages more than 50 percent of the time, anyway. Remember, he only played in six games last season after returning from a torn ACL suffered in January. It will be interesting to see what he'll be like with a full offseason and training camp. I agree with you: I think Allen Robinson becomes the best of those three receivers.
@ESPNdirocco do you see Marcedes Lewis getting traded or do they just restructure his contract? #jagsquestion
— Cody Rainwater (@_CodyRainwater) April 16, 2015
@ESPNdirocco: I know there has been some interest, but I really don't see him getting traded before draft day, mainly because he's in the final year of his contract and is scheduled to make $6.65 million and have a cap number of $8.2 million in 2015. That's a lot for a team to take on, especially since Lewis is 30 and is not as good a receiving threat as he was. To restructure his contract, the Jaguars would have to add at least one year, and remember, Lewis would have to be amenable to taking a pay cut. Could something work out on draft day? Possibly, but the Jaguars aren't likely to get more than a fifth-round pick at best.
@ESPNdirocco
Do you think it's time to start looking for an eventual replacement for Josh Scobee in the draft?
#jagsquestion
— Jesse Vigil (@jvigil76) April 16, 2015
@ESPNdirocco: Scobee is in the final year of his contract but the Jaguars don't need to place a real high priority on drafting a replacement. Teams can find kickers off the street and the Jaguars have three other kickers already on the roster: Kasey Redfern, Derek Dimke and Jason Myers. The Jaguars have a lot of other needs and shouldn't waste a draft pick on a kicker at this point.
@ESPNdirocco Some mocks have the Jags grab a WR high, one had them take DGB at 36. What interest do YOU think they have in WR? #jagsquestion
— michael orta (@Ortapalooza) April 16, 2015
@ESPNdirocco: The Jaguars will draft a receiver at some point in the draft, but they don't have to do it high because it's a pretty deep group and they can get a quality player in the third-to-fifth rounds. They're likely looking at a slot receiver and a guy like Tyler Lockett would be a fit in the middle rounds. That being said, if the Jaguars believe that Amari Cooper is a true No. 1 receiver like Dez Bryant, Julio Jones and A.J. Green, then it wouldn't surprise me to see them take him at No. 3.
.@ESPNdirocco Should Jaguars fans be more excited for #StarWarsEpisodeVII or the coming 2015 season? #jagsquestion
— Bill McNeal (@imbillmcneal) April 16, 2015
@ESPNdirocco: The Jaguars roster is much more talented now than it was when general manager David Caldwell and coach Gus Bradley took over and I believe the team should challenge a .500 record, which would be a significant improvement from the past three seasons. So there's a lot to be excited about. However: J.J. Abrams directing, way-cooler looking stormtroopers and lightsabers.
Ready for a stupid #JagsQuestion? Why do the Jags need to rework Poz' deal to create cap room? @ESPNdirocco
— Pro Football Hulk (@profootballhulk) April 16, 2015
@ESPNdirocco: It's not necessarily being done for this season; it's being done to create more cap room in the future. Plus, Caldwell has a certain salary range for players and positions and Paul Posluszny's salary ($7.45 million in 2015 and 2016) and cap figure ($9.5 million in 2015 and $7.5 million in 2016) were out of whack. The Jaguars love Posluszny, too, and this was also a way of ensuring they can hang on to him for an additional season at reasonable money if they choose.
@ESPNdirocco saw a mock draft with Green-Beckham in round 2, is this a realistic possibility, or are there bigger needs there #jagsquestion
— Larry Whitehair (@LarryMPW) April 16, 2015
@ESPNdirocco: I think there are bigger needs, specifically running back and offensive line. Most people believe the Jaguars are going to take a running back in the second round and I'm leaning that way as well.
@ESPNdirocco Do the jags go after Adrian Peterson or take a RB in the draft? Or both? #jagsquestion
— William Carbonetto (@Big_Will92) April 16, 2015
@ESPNdirocco: If they were to trade for Adrian Peterson - and that's what it would take because Minnesota apparently wants to keep him - then it'd be a surprise if they were to also draft a running back. I don't see them acquiring Peterson, though. They'd have to give up several draft picks and then deal with his outrageous contract: $43.25 million over the next three seasons.
