RTC: Jameis Winston decision could benefit Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Reading the coverage of the Jacksonville Jaguars ...

Jameis Winston's decision to enter the draft could end up helping the Jaguars, writes the Florida Times-Union's Hays Carlyon. It's logical that Winston and Marcus Mariota would be the first two picks and if that's the case that would give the Jaguars their choice of defensive linemen Randy Gregory or Leonard Williams. If Winston were not taken in the top two, the Jaguars could trade the No. 3 pick to a quarterback-needy team that picks after them -- such as Washington or the New York Jets.

Here's something Jaguars fans certainly didn't want to hear: Former New York Giants coach Jim Fassell said on The Coaches Show podcast on NFL.com that Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck "will go down as the greatest quarterback of all time."

An interesting stat you may have missed: According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Jaguars faced an average of 7.86 yards on third down in 2014, tied for the second-highest number in the NFL.

CBS Sports analyst Phil Simms thinks the Jaguars can have a turnaround season in 2015, writes the T-U's Vito Stellino. Simms said on “Inside the NFL’’ Tuesday night that the Jaguars could even challenge for a playoff spot: "I know they had a bad year but they have it in place. A lot of good young players, some good veteran players, a rookie quarterback that got through the roughest year you could have. It’ll be interesting to see. I think they can be a team that wins six to eight games easily next year, maybe even more."
