RTC: Changing of guard at receiver was evident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Reading the coverage of the Jacksonville Jaguars ...

The changing of the guard at receiver was evident in Thursday night's victory over Tennessee, writes the Florida Times-Union's Vito Stellino. Rookies Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns each made key plays on the Jaguars' first two scoring drives; Cecil Shorts had two catches for 15 yards.

The T-U's Hays Carlyon writes that the worst is over for Jaguars fans. The next time the team plays at EverBank Field, the team should be much more competitive because the rookies will be a year older and general manager David Caldwell will have spent a good chunk of the $50-$60 million in cap space the team has, adding some veteran help.

NFL.com's Kevin Patra writes that quarterback Blake Bortles has the "it" factor. Patra: "Bortles has gone through tough stretches that often displayed why the Jags' brass originally wanted to keep him out this year. However, in his moments of brilliance, he's displayed a higher ceiling than any other rookie signal-caller in 2014. A gritty performance like Thursday's will only ingratiate Bortles toward teammates as he attempts to lead Jacksonville out of the NFL cellar."

The MMQB's Peter King discusses how the Jaguars will turn around around the franchise.

WJXT TV-4 sports director Sam Kouvaris and Cole Pepper discuss the Jaguars' 21-13 victory in their latest podcast.

Jaguars.com has exclusive video of coach Gus Bradley's postgame speech, which includes mention of defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks' $600,000 sack.

T-U columnist Gene Frenette writes that Bortles was able to flip a switch just long enough to salvage a victory over the Titans. Frenette writes that losing to the punchless Titans would have only added to one of the most depressing seasons in franchise history. If the Jaguars couldn’t find a way to score more points than Tennessee’s injury-ravaged offense, it would have been an embarrassing 2014 home farewell.

The T-U's Ryan O'Halloran reports that defensive tackle Roy Miller's season is over because of a meniscus injury that will require surgery.
