Winning the AFC South far from a sure thing for Colts

INDIANAPOLIS -- It was not that long ago that the Indianapolis Colts were on a five-game winning streak and looking like they were going to run away with the AFC South.

Four weeks and two losses later, the Colts are anything but a sure bet to win the division.

Should the Colts win the AFC South for the second straight season?

Yes. But it won’t be easy.

The Houston Texans, with new starting quarterback Ryan Mallet, are only a game behind the Colts for first place in the division.

Both teams have six games remaining, including a visit to Indianapolis, a place they’ve never won, by the Texans on Dec. 14. But the Texans have the easiest remaining schedule in the NFL.

The Texans’ final six opponents have a winning percentage of .381. Don’t worry, the Colts have the third easiest remaining schedule (.407).

"Our first goal has always been to win the division," linebacker Jerrell Freeman said. "We’re well on our way to do that, we’ve just got to keep winning. This is a big one for us. Just keep winning within the division and we’ll get to the playoffs, and let the chips fall where they may."

Here is a look at the remaining schedule for the Colts and Texans:

Colts: vs. Jacksonville (1-9), vs. Washington (3-7), at Cleveland (6-4), vs. Houston (5-5), at Dallas (7-3), at Tennessee (2-8)

Texans: vs. Cincinnati (6-3-1), vs. Tennessee (2-8), at Jacksonville (1-9), at Indianapolis (6-4), vs. Baltimore (6-4), vs. Jacksonville (1-9).
