RTC: Inside J.J. Watt's rocky days

Reading the coverage of the Houston Texans...

Earlier this offseason, Texans defensive end J.J. Watt shared his unorthodox training regimen back home in Wisconsin. He plopped a mattress on a friend's floor and slept there at night, working out by day. Robert Mays of Grantland.com takes us deeper into Watt's offseason as a way to lead into this profile of the player. He begins: "It all started as a joke. That’s what Taylor Jannsen thought, at least. Jannsen lives with an old friend in his hometown of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, in a two-bedroom, third-floor walk-up of an apartment building about five miles from town. He’s 25, a basketball personal trainer and coach just getting his business off the ground. It’s post-college living at its purest: 1,000 square feet, beige appliances about his age, wall-to-wall carpet, and a pair of recliners in front of the TV. So when J.J. Watt mentioned he might want to crash on Jannsen’s floor, he didn’t take it seriously."

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle takes a look at Texans safety D.J. Swearinger's future. "'I got a lot of experience playing against a lot of great players,' Swearinger said after practice Wednesday. 'Players that helped me last year were Ed [Reed], Danieal Manning and J Joe (Johnathan Joseph).' Joseph, a nine-year veteran starting at cornerback for a fourth season with the Texans, is the only player returning among the three Swearinger mentioned. 'Those guys helped me a lot with my techniques and my knowledge of the game,' he said. 'I wouldn't say that I'm a rookie again (with a new staff and system). I'd say it's just me having to learn a new system.'"

The Texans' have a dearth of offensive guards. With that phenomenon, Dave Zangaro of CSNHouston.com took a look at the ones healthy and on the roster who are getting plenty of repetitions in the meantime.
