A roundup of what's happening on the Green Bay Packers beat.
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Later this week on ESPN.com, we will unveil our latest "Moment in Time" project. It will revisit the final play from the Packers-Seahawks' 2012 game and will feature first-hand accounts from all of the key parties involved -- including one of the game officials -- in what became known as the "Fail Mary" game.
But don't think the Packers are spending much time this week dwelling on the last meeting between the two teams in anticipation of Thursday's regular-season opener in Seattle.
"I can promise you that the only time that topic will be brought up is when I'm in here," McCarthy said Sunday in the media auditorium. "We're past it."
Past it, perhaps.
But over it? Probably never.
For the "Moment in Time" piece, McCarthy talked at length about that night in Seattle and the aftermath of the shocking loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Here's a teaser: He called it "a very low moment for the professionalism of our game."
In case you missed it on ESPN.com:
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers not only will have to deal with the crowd noise Thursday at Seattle but will have to do it with a first-time starter center, Corey Linsley. which could make for a difficult combination.
That's also a topic ESPN TV reporter Josina Anderson and I discussed in this video.
The Packers kept three quarterbacks on the roster, but Matt Flynn will be the No. 2 behind Rodgers.
Starting linebacker Brad Jones, who missed the preseason finale with a quadriceps injury, returned to practice Sunday, giving the Packers a healthy defensive unit. Details are in the practice report.
All 10 players on the practice squad, which was finalized Sunday, were with the team during training camp. However, there is expected to be a change Monday, when cornerback Jumal Rolle will be signed to the practice squad, according to his agent. It's unclear whose practice-squad stint will end after just one day.
The Packers had seven players in for tryouts Sunday, including three quarterbacks.
