Orioles' Pearce sticks with power tradition

Jonathan Dyer/USA TODAY Sports

In each of the past two seasons, the eventual major league leader in home runs was a Baltimore Orioles player who just happened to hit one out in each of the team’s first two games. The current Orioles have played two games, and they have another slugger who is off to a great start, Steve Pearce. It might seem unlikely that a journeyman like Pearce could ultimately match the prior season-long feats of notable sluggers Chris Davis and Nelson Cruz, but then again it wasn’t as if Davis and Cruz were supposed to do it, either.
