Morning Roar: Ndamukong Suh facing a friend

BAGSHOT, England -- When Ndamukong Suh looks across the field on Sunday, he'll see a familiar face. Someone whom, for other than a few hours this weekend, he considers a friend.

Suh and Atlanta running back Steven Jackson have known each other a long time. They even appeared in a movie, "Think Like a Man Too," together. And on the Detroit Lions' first night in England, he actually spent time with him at a NikeTown doing a promotional event for the NFL and Nike.

They took part in a question-and-answer session along with Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton and got to hang out for a night during a season where they don't get to see each other very often.

"He's a close friend of mine," Suh said. "I've known him since I got into the league. Our sisters know each other and all that so he's like family except when we're on the football field."

That'll come Sunday, when they'll have to put that aside for a minute. This is something they've done before, when the Lions faced the Rams in 2012 and Suh tackled Jackson using only one arm. Jackson had 53 yards rushing in that game. And Suh, whose team won, has used that as bragging rights ever since.

"He's one of the toughest people to bring down so I for sure rubbed that in later on," Suh said. "I think as professionals and friends we understand the game, we understand how to compartmentalize things, and that's what you have to do when you get out there on the football field.

"Just compartmentalize it. He's not my friend on the football field. He's not my enemy, but he's somebody that I definitely don't want to have any success, especially when he's directly across from me."

This season, Jackson has 77 carries for 285 yards and 10 catches for 60 yards. Suh has 19 tackles and 3.5 sacks this season.
