Packers will beat Lions

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- It would be easy to point to Aaron Rodgers’ 9-1 record against Detroit and say as long as he’s playing, Green Bay will win. The reason the Packers will win Sunday has a lot to do with Rodgers, but it also has more to do with the already-patchwork Detroit secondary that is on its third slot cornerback in as many weeks. The Lions could mask this weakness against a lot of teams, especially because linebacker DeAndre Levy is good in coverage, but not against Green Bay and its favored three-wide set.

Nate Freese is a concern as well, and until he proves to be a trusted kicker, this is going to be a negative for Detroit in close games, which most NFL contests are. He's 2 of 5 right now kicking field goals and his job is at least a little bit tenuous, so how he is able to handle a pressure kick could be the difference between a win and a loss. I'm a believer in not believing until you prove it, so that's an issue for the Lions, too.

This Lions team, though, was built for offense and because the Packers allow only 178.5 yards per game passing and 5.95 yards per attempt, it could be a rough day for Matthew Stafford and the offense. Even if the offense gets going, though, the defense has some issues, as mentioned above. It ends up being a high-scoring situation in Detroit, but the Packers do what Aaron Rodgers does. Win.

Prediction: Green Bay 38, Detroit 35
