Undefeated Broncos still drop a spot in ESPN's Power Rankings

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Even when the Denver Broncos win, their struggles on offense have overshadowed their efforts.

After moving to 5-0 with their third road victory of the season -- a 16-10 win over the Oakland Raiders -- the Broncos actually dropped a spot in ESPN’s Power Rankings.

The Broncos checked in at No. 4, down a spot from last week when they were No. 3 after a victory, at home, over the Minnesota Vikings. So, while the team’s No. 1 defense (also No. 1 in sacks with 22) has pushed the Broncos to five consecutive wins, it does not sway ESPN’s panel of voters.

The voters' take is shared by many of the Broncos faithful, who likely lead the league in hand-wringing over the team’s offensive output. The Broncos have scored just eight touchdowns on offense in five games, and the team’s defensive backs have more touchdowns (three) than the Broncos’ running backs have scored on the ground (two).

And, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Broncos’ total of eight touchdowns on offense is the second-lowest by a team to open a season 5-0 since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.
