ARLINGTON, Texas -- Nelson Cruz was in the Texas Rangers' lineup Wednesday and said his elbow felt better. But he added that he wanted to swing in the cages and see how it felt.

"He's in the lineup and if I need to change it, I will," manager Ron Washington said.

Cruz was hit in the left elbow by a James Shields pitch in the fifth inning. X-rays were negative but Cruz's elbow is a bit swollen. He said he'd go through treatment and spend time in the batting cages. But he wasn't surprised to find his name in the lineup.

Other notes:

* C Mike Napoli said he did some running in the pool but hasn't tested the quad on the bases again. He's not sure when he might do that. Napoli will continue to try to slowly ramp back up but does not want to do anything to risk a setback. It's uncertain when he'll return.

Washington said Napoli's situation doesn't make him feel like the club needs to pick up another catcher the next few days. He's pleased with what Geovany Soto and Luis Martinez have given the club to this point.

* The club will get its first off day Thursday after 20 straight days of games and does so pretty rested and feeling good. Part of that was by design, with Washington giving certain guys days off, and some of that was minor injuries or even personal reasons (as in the case of Ryan Dempster).
