Alfred Morris has no regrets joining Cowboys, even after Ezekiel Elliott picked

ARLINGTON, Texas – On March 22, Alfred Morris signed a two-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys. Last Thursday, the Cowboys drafted Ezekiel Elliott in the first round.

Morris and Darren McFadden were directly affected by the decision to draft Elliott at No. 4, but Morris has no regrets about signing with the Cowboys.

“Oh, no, none at all,” Morris said Sunday night at a charity event at AT&T Stadium. “This is where I’m supposed to be and I’m excited about the opportunity here and looking forward to it.”

Morris said he watched about the first six picks of the draft before calling it a night, but it was not because he was upset. He said he got bored.

“I get used to that, man,” Morris said. “When I was at the Redskins, every year they drafted another running back. This is the first time I’ve been in this situation. One, I’m new here. Two, they drafted a first-round running back, so I mean I’m excited because I’m very biased toward running backs. They try to devalue us, and so it was a dry spell until last year that running backs weren’t going in the first round. So to have a running back go in the first round, I’m excited. … I’m used to it. It’s a business at the end of the day. Competition only makes us better, so I get excited about it. It’s definitely going to be a big challenge, but I’m excited about it.”

Washington drafted four runners after taking Morris in the sixth round of the 2012 draft, including Matt Jones in 2015 in the third round.

Morris actually met Elliott when the Ohio State running back visited Valley Ranch before the draft, but he did not get to talk much to him. He said he would be willing to help Elliott.

“That’s another thing that’s different,” Morris said. “When I was with the Redskins my rookie year and the years past, that I was able to learn the playbook and get comfortable enough and help guys. With him, I’m not going to be able to do that. I’m going to be learning a whole new playbook. But if he wants some wisdom, I mean this is my fifth year. I’ve learned a few things and if [he] wants to kind of just pick my brain, I’m an open book.”
