Reliving some Tony Romo Jedi tricks on #StarWarsDay

IRVING, Texas -- With this being Star Wars Day, it seems to be an appropriate time to recall some of Tony Romo’s Jedi tricks over the years.

The force has been strong in the Dallas Cowboys quarterback over the years.

How many plays can you come up with off the top of your head?

At the top of my head is the spin-o-rama he pulled on Houston Texans defensive end and defensive player of the year J.J. Watt. With a free shot on Romo, Watt whiffed as Romo used his famous spin to deke the all-everything pass-rusher and found Terrance Williams for a touchdown.

The play that might have started it all for Romo might have been what he did against the St. Louis Rams after a shotgun snap sailed over his head. It took Romo some time to come up with the bouncing ball, but as he turned up field he ran away from a couple Rams defenders, stopped short on another as he ran about 35 yards to pick up a first down on third-and-3.

“You don’t think they’ll be showing this clip for years to come, do you?” Troy Aikman said on the Fox broadcast.

One week after spinning away from Watt, Romo spun away from Seattle Seahawks pass-rusher Bruce Irvin on the key third-and-20 pass to Williams on the winning drive. In Week 3 against the Rams last season, he had a 16-yard run on third-and-13, using the okey-doke to get by linebacker Alec Ogletree.

So many others come to mind, like his end-of-half scramble against the Atlanta Falcons that left Jonathan Babineaux reaching for Jello before a TD pass to Patrick Crayton. Romo had a 25-yard throw to Miles Austin after he slipped through Fletcher Cox and by two other Philadelphia Eagles defenders.

In Week 16 in 2013 against the Redskins, Romo aggravated a disk in his back while scrambling away from trouble, remained in the game and then won the game when he avoided trouble on a fourth-down TD pass to DeMarco Murray with a little more than a minute to play. Romo had surgery five days later.

Romo turned 35 last month. He might be more Obi-Wan Kenobi than Luke Skywalker these days, but he can still find the force when he needs to.
