CINCINNATI -- When the Cowboys signed Jerry Brown to the practice squad there wasn't much known about him, other than he played one game with the Indianapolis Colts and that he was an outside linebacker.

But Brown was an athletic talent who the team figured had a future.

"I liked Jerry a lot," linebacker Alex Albright said Saturday night. "Got to know him these past five weeks and he's a really quiet kid, but after the first couple of weeks he really opened up and coach (Jason Garrett) pointed it out -- he came to work every day, didn't complain, he never gave any guff. He was just always ready to work and I liked Jerry a lot, and that's all I can say. It's just tough not having him here."

Brown, from St. Louis, played in the AFL and CFL. He was signed by the Colts in May and appeared in a Week 6 game at the New York Jets. In a 35-9 loss to the Jets, Brown played 11 special teams snaps, no defensive snaps and didn't record a tackle.

On an Oct. 9 facebook post, Brown said: "Today has been a blessed day for me. I got to c and talk to a great friend of mine for about 4 hour at the strangest time of day 2am. But probably the biggest thing that happened was me being added to the 53 man roster.. First official NFL game against the Jets this Sunday.. The Journey starts NOW!!"

Brown was released from the Colts on Oct. 20 and signed with Dallas four days later. He didn't play in any games for the Cowboys.

In another facebook post, on Nov. 29, Brown noted he was going to become a father to a little girl. A team official couldn't confirm that on Saturday, but Brown's post said in part, "I mean I do have my lil one coming soon and don't get me wrong I'm overly excited to c her and b everything for her."
