INDIANAPOLIS -- At a get-together with a handful of local reporters Jerry Jones said the Cowboys are unlikely to make a roster move before next Friday, but the owner and general manager also said there could be an exception.

“At this time on our roster there’s only one – as of that date,” Jones said. “We have the right to do that later as well.”

Jones was asked if it was a player with a $500,000 roster bonus due in the early part of the 2011 league year and would not confirm, saying, “That’s your job to figure out.”

Much of the speculation has been on Marion Barber. The running back does have a $500,000 roster bonus but it is not due until June 4 (if there is a new CBA by then). It might make more sense to cut Barber in June to spread out his cap hit over two seasons. Cutting Barber in June would save the Cowboys $4.75 million. Cutting him before would save them $750,000.

Dez Bryant has a $1 million roster bonus due on the fifth day of the new league year. Just a guess, but he’s not going anywhere. Backup guard Montrae Holland is due a $500,000 roster bonus on the fifth day as well, and I don’t think he’s going anywhere either. Jason Witten and Bradie James have $500,000 roster bonuses on the 15th day of the league year, and they’re not going anywhere.

Some possibilities?

Right tackle Marc Colombo has a $2.6 million option bonus that comes due in the first 15 days of the new league year and a $500,000 roster bonus that he would receive in parts during the year for each game he is on the 45-man roster in 2011.

Leonard Davis does not have roster bonus, but he does carry a $9.4 million cap figure. If the Cowboys release Davis, they would save $1.834 million against the cap in 2011.

Without a new CBA, however, Jones is right: there is no rush to these moves.
