Cowboys open preseason vs. San Diego

The NFL released the 2014 preseason schedule on Wednesday and the Dallas Cowboys will begin things against the San Diego Chargers. The final dates haven't been determined, but the first preseason game will occur between August 7-10.

The Cowboys are projected to start training camp July 23 or 24 in Oxnard, Calif.

The second preseason game will be at AT&T Stadium when the Cowboys play host to the Baltimore Ravens between August 14-18.

One reason the Cowboys start with only one preseason game on the West Coast is because AT&T Stadium is unavailable on Aug. 24. One Direction, a British band, is playing at the venue. The Cowboys usually play the first two preseason games on the road, then come home, but the concert has forced them to play their second exhibition at home and the third on the road. It’s unlikely the Cowboys will return to the West Coast after playing the Ravens.

A visit to the Miami Dolphins, August 21-24, is next for the Cowboys, and the final preseason game will be Thursday, Aug. 28 against the defending AFC champion Denver Broncos.
