Western Conference hinge players for 2015-16

The conversation with St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock had been focused on Alex Pietrangelo, and specifically why he didn’t have the season in 2014-15 that so many expected. There was a good explanation, which was covered here.

So when the concept of the "hinge" player was presented to Hitchcock, Pietrangelo seemed like a natural candidate. Each year in this space, we highlight players who, if they have big seasons, the fortunes of a team change dramatically. The guy whose performance could mean the playoffs or, in the case of a team like the Blues, something even bigger. The only rule is that it can’t be a goalie; that's too easy.

Hitchcock quickly shot down the Pietrangelo suggestion, mostly because he’s already completely convinced Pietrangelo is going to have a big season.
