Ranking the 10 best NHL contracts of the offseason

Part of the entertainment of early July and the free-agent frenzy was to see how many ridiculous contracts general managers would give out. We were robbed of that entertainment this year.

A stagnant cap mixed with uncharacteristic restraint transformed a feeding that was more pecking than frenzy. Teams preferred to sink money into their own younger players -- a sound strategy to secure the best years of their career. The result was contracts that are much more reasonable and forward-thinking than years past.

With that, we’re ranking the 10 best contracts of the offseason:


1. Justin Williams, Washington Capitals

First, there’s the obvious:
