Part of the entertainment of early July and the free-agent frenzy was to see how many ridiculous contracts general managers would give out. We were robbed of that entertainment this year.
A stagnant cap mixed with uncharacteristic restraint transformed a feeding that was more pecking than frenzy. Teams preferred to sink money into their own younger players -- a sound strategy to secure the best years of their career.
