Chykie Brown headlines Bengals' day-after-Super Bowl signings

CINCINNATI -- With the 2015 season officially in their rearview mirror, the Cincinnati Bengals were active free-agent players the day after the Super Bowl, adding a veteran cornerback and a young offensive tackle.

Chykie Brown, a fifth-year NFL player who played with the Ravens and Giants, headlined the two Monday signings. Although he didn't play on a team during the 2015 regular season, he did spend the bulk of the 2011-14 seasons playing in the AFC North. While with Baltimore, Brown was part of the Ravens team that beat San Francisco in Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.

Along with Brown, the Bengals signed first-year player Darryl Baldwin, an offensive tackle who played at Ohio State before getting signed by the Ravens last May. Baldwin appeared in only one preseason game for Baltimore before being placed on the non-football/illness list. He was waived during the final round of cuts, and like Brown, didn't spend this past regular-season playing for an NFL team.

Both players will contribute to the Bengals' depth this offseason and will look to make the team by the end of the 2016 preseason.

The signings also could be viewed as some back-end insurance for a team that will has two corners and two tackles currently slated to hit free agency next month. Veteran corners Adam Jones and Leon Hall might not return, along with tackles Andre Smith and Eric Winston.
