Rapid Reaction: White Sox 6, Indians 0

CHICAGO -- The White Sox rolled to a 6-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians, winning their second series of the season.

How it happened: The White Sox unearthed a rare offensive day, and it came against Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber, as the right-hander gave up a career high 13 hits. White Sox starter Jeff Samardzija was in and out of trouble, but ended up pitching six scoreless innings. Jose Abreu hit a first-inning home run for the second consecutive day and had three RBIs. Six White Sox hitters collected two hits each.

What it means: The offense, much maligned over the first two weeks of the season, seems to be sputtering to life. It started Saturday with a 12-run uprising at Detroit, but went away again until the White Sox managed to put together a four-run ninth inning Monday for a comeback victory. Again the offense went away Tuesday, but it emerged again Wednesday against a pitcher that brought a 2.49 ERA into the game.

Outside the box: Samardzija is rolling now and has completely distanced himself from a rough start to the season when he gave up nine runs on 12 hits over his first eight innings. Since then, the big offseason rotation addition has given up one run on 16 hits over his last 18 innings. In what looked to be a tough matchup Wednesday, he was able to outclass Kluber by working out of early-inning jams.

Off beat: The White Sox got a scare in the fourth inning when Abreu crashed into the railing in front of the Indians dugout while chasing a foul ball. Abreu limped away with an apparent leg injury, but it he actually ended up with a hand injury. Abreu was bleeding profusely from a cut near his right thumb, but remained in the game and had the wound cleaned out by trainer Herm Schneider in the dugout. He later hit a two-run double in the seventh inning.

Up next: The White Sox will send left-hander Chris Sale (2-0, 2.25) to the mound Thursday in the opener of a four-game series against Kansas City. The Royals will counter with right-hander Yordano Ventura (2-1, 4.80) in the 7:10 p.m. start from U.S. Cellular Field.
