Jose Quintana came into Friday’s contest riding a streak of 16 scoreless innings, which didn’t last the game’s second hitter –
Curtis Granderson hit a two-run homer to right. Quintana didn’t have the electric stuff he had displayed these past few weeks, giving up six runs over eight innings. He was, however, helped by a huge offensive night from his teammates in what turned out to be his third win of the season. Alexei Ramirez also going deep. Making his first major league start, New York’s
Adam Warren lasted just 2 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on eight hits.
What it means: The White Sox are hot. They have won four in a row and seven of their past nine. With Friday’s win, the White Sox also improved to 23-14 on the road. The Sox also gained a game on Cleveland to expand their lead in the AL Central.
Outside the box: Per ESPN Stats & Info, Paul Konerko’s third-inning home run was his 14th of the season and the 410th of his career. It was his 21st home run against the Yankees as a member of the White Sox. No player in franchise history has more career home runs when facing the Yanks.
