Rapid Reaction: White Sox 12, Twins 5

Here’s a quick look at the Chicago White Sox’s 12-5 win over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field on Wednesday:

How it happened: Despite the absence of Paul Konerko, Gordon Beckham and Dayan Viciedo from Wednesday’s lineup, the White Sox’s offense still produced plenty against the Twins. Ten White Sox’s batters recorded a hit. Adam Dunn, who had three hits, snapped out of his recent funk and homered for the first time since June 15. His three-run home run in the fifth inning was his 24th of the season. Dunn and Alex Rios hit back-to-back home runs in the inning. Kevin Youkilis also continued to produce in his third game with the White Sox with three hits, one run and two RBIs. Starter Chris Sale cruised with the offensive protection, picking up his ninth win of the season.

What it means: The White Sox won their second consecutive series after dropping their previous five. They improved to five games over .500 and remained in first place in the American League Central.

Outside the box: Tuesday’s win by Gavin Floyd and Wednesday’s win by Sale marked the first time since May 27 and May 28 the two pitchers won back-to-back starts. The troubles have been mostly with Floyd since then, but he appears he’s back on track with two consecutive strong outings. The White Sox’s rotation may finally find some consistency.

Up next: The White Sox open a four-game series with the New York Yankees on Thursday. Dylan Axelrod (0-1, 4.85) will start for the White Sox and will be opposed by the Yankees’ Ivan Nova (9-2, 4.25) in the 6:05 p.m. CT start.
