Here’s a quick look at the
Chicago White Sox's 3-2 win over the
Minnesota Twins at Target Field on Tuesday.
How it happened: White Sox starting pitcher
Gavin Floyd broke a streak of eight consecutive losses to the Twins with Tuesday’s victory. Floyd (6-7, 4.80) allowed five hits, no runs and no walks and struck out nine in seven innings.
Alex Rios provided the game’s big hit with a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Alexei Ramirez also had an RBI single, driving in Rios in the seventh inning. Rios was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Ramirez also had two hits. It was his ninth multi-hit game in June. The White Sox had five hits in the win. Sox closer
Addison Reed gave up two runs in the ninth on a single to
Jamey Carroll.
What it means: Floyd may have turned the corner after struggling from mid-May to mid-June. He’s allowed no runs in his last two starts. For the White Sox, they extended their lead over the
Cleveland Indians to 1 ½ games in the American League Central. The White Sox could win their second consecutive series if they defeat the Twins on Wednesday.
Outside the box: Paul Konerko was overtaken Tuesday for the American League lead in batting average by the Los Angeles Angels’
Mike Trout, who is hitting .335. Konerko went 0-for-3 Tuesday, and his average fell to .333. Konerko was batting .399 on May 27.
Up next: Chris Sale (8-2, 2.24) will start for the White Sox in the series finale on Wednesday. The Twins will counter with
Nick Blackburn (4-4, 7.45).
