The Chicago Cubs hired former Arizona Diamondbacks assistant athletic trainer P.J. Mainville as their head athletic trainer. Mainvile, 37, replaces Mark O'Neal, who will continue to work for the team in newly created role of medical administrator.
Mainville worked in the minor leagues for Arizona before becoming assistant trainer in 2010. A Warrentown, Va., native, Mainville worked as minor league trainer for the Baltimore Orioles for 13 years before accepting a position with the Diamondbacks.
O'Neal was the Cubs head athletic trainer since 2004. He joined the team after working with the St. Louis Cardinals from 1998-2003. O'Neal will work with all of the team's medical and training staff in his new position.
