CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs' announcements Monday weren’t just limited to adding a third-base coach and nailing down the hitting-coach situation.
Restructuring on the player development side was revealed, as well as changes on the amateur scouting, international scouting and pro scouting sides.
In player development, Tim Cossins was announced as the new field director to work directly with new director of player development Brandon Hyde. Cossins was formerly in the Miami Marlins organization. Also in player development, Alex Suarez was promoted to assistant director of player development/international scouting, while former minor league player David Macias was hired as the player development/international scouting assistant.
On the amateur scouting side, Jaron Madison was named director of amateur scouting, while Lukas McKnight was promoted to assistant director of amateur scouting and Shane Farrell was given the title of amateur scouting assistant. Farrell is the son of new Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell.
In addition, Chris Clemons, JP Davis and Alex Lontayo were named area scouts while Mark Adair has moved from a pro scout role to crosschecker.
In international scouting, Louis Eljaua was named special assistant to the GM/director of international scouting, while Paul Weaver was named international scouting crosschecker/coordinator of Pacific Rim scouting.
In other moves, Joe Bohringer was named director of pro scouting, while Andrew Bassett was named pro scouting coordinator.
To round out the announcements, the Cubs promoted Jake Ciarrachi to pro scout (from pro scouting coordinator) and hired the following new pro scouts: Steve Boros, Terry Kennedy and Mark Kiefer. Denny Henderson and Steve Hinton have moved to pro scouting from amateur scouting. Also hired were Jason Karegeannes and Brad Kullman as major league scouts, joining Dave Littlefield (special assistant to the GM/major league scout).
The Cubs are also close to naming a minor league pitching coordinator and are working on finding a new minor league hitting coordinator. Managers and coaches of all minor league affiliates are also close to being made official.
