Cubs promote Wilken, hire new scouting director

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs hired Jaron Madison as scouting director, replacing Tim Wilken who was promoted to special assistant to the president/general manager the team announced on Friday.

Madison had the same position with the San Diego Padres.

Wilken had received praise from both general manager Jed Hoyer and president of baseball operations Theo Epstein during his tenure as scouting director. Wilken had key input on the Cubs’ 2012 draft, the first in Chicago under Hoyer and Epstein.

Since Madison was in San Diego, the Padres’ have considerably increased the talent in their system. Hoyer hired Madison in 2009 when he was with the Padres.
