Season recap: Bickell’s regular season was solid for a role player. His 14 goals and 28 points were actually the second highest individual marks in his career. The problem is the Blackhawks aren’t paying him like a role player. He was given a four-year, $16-million contract after the 2012-13 season. Despite his average numbers in the regular season, he had been given a pass because he’s often performed well in the playoffs. He had 16 goals and 27 points in the previous two playoff seasons. He didn’t come near meeting those numbers this season. He had zero goals and five points in 18 playoff games.

Season highlight: Bickell’s lone multi-goal game of the season came against the Minnesota Wild on Jan. 8. He scored two goals in a 4-2 win.

Season lowlight: Bickell’s season ended on a low note as he struggled to score, suffered vertigo and was a healthy scratch in the final games of the Stanly Cup finals.

Final grade: C-

Inside the numbers: Bickell’s lack of scoring in this year’s playoffs can be directed to his lack of shooting. He combined for 93 shots on goal in the playoffs in 2012 and 2013. He had 18 shots on net this season.

Quotes: Bickell on the team’s offseason moves: "It’s not really in your control what happens, who’s coming or going. It’s part of the business where good friends and good people you play with move on. It’s part of the business and the cap situation."

What’s next: Bickell is expected to be among the players on the trading block. The Blackhawks need to create space to re-sign Brandon Saad and get under the salary cap, and Bickell’s cap hit of $4 million would help in that. The question is whether the Blackhawks can get someone to take on all of Bickell’s salary.
