Blackhawks playoff picture (April 8)

Here’s a look at the Chicago Blackhawks’ playoff picture heading into Wednesday’s games:

What happened Tuesday: The Central Division didn’t change because the top-3 teams all lost. The Blackhawks lost 2-1 to the Minnesota Wild. The St. Louis Blues fell 1-0 to the Winnipeg Jets. The Nashville Predators lost 3-2 to the Colorado Avalanche. The Wild clinched a playoff berth with their victory, and the Jets moved closer to doing so as well.

What to watch for Wednesday: The Anaheim Ducks can clinch the top overall seed in the Western Conference with a regulation or overtime win over the Dallas Stars.

Central Division standings: 1. Blues, 105 points, 40 regulation and overtime wins (first tiebreaker) in 80 games; 2. Predators, 104 points, 41 ROW in 80 games; 3. Blackhawks, 102 points, 39 ROW in 80 games; 4. Wild, 98 points, 41 ROW in 80 games.

Wild Card standings: 1. Wild, 98 points in 80 games; 2. Jets, 96 points in 80 games; 3. Los Angeles Kings, 93 points in 80 games.

Blackhawks playoff outlook: The Blackhawks could have been in first place if they had found ways to defeat the Blues and Wild in the last two games. Instead, they have to win on the road if they’re going to improve their playoff position or even hold off the Wild from catching them. Thursday should be another interesting day with the Blackhawks and Blues playing again and the Predators hosting the Wild.

Blackhawks remaining schedule: at Blues (Thursday), at Avalanche (Saturday).
