EDMONTON, Alberta -- Here’s a glimpse of what happened in the Chicago Blackhawks' 5-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place on Friday night.

How it happened: A two-goal performance from forward Brandon Saad was not enough for Chicago, playing the second game of a back-to-back set.

The Blackhawks again took an early lead -- on a Saad tap-in past Oilers goaltender Ben Scrivens off a Jonathan Toews rebound 7 minutes, 34 seconds into the first period -- only to see the Oilers equalize just over a minute later when Benoit Pouliot buried a scramble in front of Antti Raanta. After Saad tied the game 2-2 on a nearly identical goal in the second period, Oilers defenseman Jeff Petry put a second-chance strike past Raanta to regain the lead 46 seconds later. Nail Yakupov would provide insurance in the waning minutes of the third by cashing in on a 2-on-0 chance with Taylor Hall, and Hall followed with an empty-netter to make it it 5-2.

What it means: The Oilers claimed their first victory over the Blackhawks at Rexall Place since Feb. 2, 2012, when Sam Gagner tied an Oilers franchise record with eight points in an 8-4 win. The Hawks split the two-game road swing, which began with a 4-2 victory Thursday at Minnesota.

Player of the game: Center Derek Roy continued his revival with the Oilers since arriving from the Nashville Predators in a Dec. 29 trade for Mark Arcobello, adding a goal and two assists Friday to increase his totals to two goals and three assists in six games with Edmonton.

Stat of the game: Saad, in his third season, surpassed the 100-point plateau for his career.

What’s next: The Blackhawks return to the United Center to begin a four-game homestand that starts with the Wild at 7 p.m. Sunday.
