Hawks prospect watch: Nordstrom named captain

Here’s a look at how some of the Chicago Blackhawks’ prospects are doing around the world:

Joakim Nordstrom, forward, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), drafted 3rd round in 2010

Nordstrom, 22, was the named the IceHogs’ team captain last week. He also scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday. He has two goals and one assist in eight games this season.

Teuvo Teravainen, forward, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), drafted 1st round in 2012

Teravainen, 20, set up both of the IceHogs’ goals in 2-1 win over Grand Rapids on Wednesday. He’s tied for second on the team with five points, which includes one goal and four assists, in eight games.

Matt Carey, forward, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), signed as a free agent in 2014

Carey, 22, scored a goal in the IceHogs’ 2-1 win over Grand Rapids on Wednesday. He has two goals and two assists in eight games this season.

Robin Press, defenseman, Sodertalje (Allsvenskan), drafted 7th round in 2013

Press, 19, recorded his 13th assist of the season in a 3-1 loss to IF Bjorkloven on Tuesday. He has five goals and 13 assists in 19 games this season. He’s tied for third in the league in points.

Vince Hinostroza, forward, Notre Dame (NCAA), drafted 6th round in 2012

Hinostroza, a sophomore, had a goal and two assists in Notre Dame’s 7-0 win over Niagara on Saturday. He has one goal and four assists in six games this season.

Chris Calnan, forward, Boston College (NCAA), drafted 3rd round in 2012

Calnan, a sophomore, had a goal and an assist in Boston College’s 6-2 win over Colorado College on Oct. 24. He has two goals this season.

Ryan Hartman, forward, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), drafted 1st round in 2013

Hartman, 20, had a goal and an assist in the IceHogs’ 5-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters on Sunday. He has two goals, three assists and is a plus-6 in eight games.

Luke Johnson, forward, North Dakota (NCAA), drafted 5th round in 2013

Johnson, a sophomore, scored a goal in each of North Dakota’s two games with Providence last weekend. He had a goal in a 6-1 win on Oct. 24 and a goal in a 2-2 tie on Saturday. He has two points in six games this season.

Mark McNeill, forward, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), drafted 1st round in 2011

McNeill, 21, had two assists in the IceHogs’ 4-3 win over the Chicago Wolves on Saturday and a goal in their 5-2 win over Lake Erie on Sunday. He has two goals and three assists in eight games this season.

Kyle Cumiskey, defenseman, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), signed as a free agent in 2014

Cumiskey, 27, had three assists in the IceHogs’ 5-2 win over Lake Erie on Sunday. He has four assists in six games.

Nick Schmaltz, forward, North Dakota (NCAA), drafted 1st round in 2014

Schmaltz, a freshman, contributed two assists in a 6-1 win over Providence on Oct. 24. He’s tied for second on North Dakota with six points. He has one goal and five assists in six games this season.

Ivan Nalimov, goaltender, Admiral Vladivostok (KHL), drafted 6th round in 2014

Nalimov, 20, stopped 22-of-23 shots in a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Minsk on Wednesday. He’s 2-5-2 with a 2.87 goals-against average and .898 save percentage in 10 games this season in the KHL.

Brandon Mashinter, forward, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), acquired from Rangers in 2013

Mashinter, 26, had a goal and an assist in the IceHogs’ 4-3 win over the Chicago Wolves on Saturday. He has two points and is a plus-3 in five games.

Dennis Rasmussen, forward, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), signed as a free agent in 2014

Rasmussen, 24, had a goal in the IceHogs’ 5-2 win over Lake Erie on Sunday and a goal in their 4-3 win over the Wolves on Saturday. He has two goals and is a plus-5 in eight games.

Anthony Louis, forward, Miami Ohio (NCAA), drafted 6th round in 2013

Louis, a sophomore, scored his first goal of the season and had seven shots on net in a 5-4 loss to St. Lawrence on Oct. 24. He has one goal and four assists in six games this season.

Tyler Motte, forward, Michigan (NCAA), drafted 4th round in 2013

Motte, a sophomore, scored a goal in the Wolverines’ 8-4 win over UMass Lowell on Oct. 24. He has two goals in five games this season.
