LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears have signed free agent punter Spencer Lanning, according to a league source.

Starting punter Pat O'Donnell is dealing with a knee injury and is questionable to face the Oakland Raiders. O’Donnell had been limited at practice the last two days after he punted 10 times for 477 yards in Week 3.

The Bears worked out Lanning and fellow free agent punter Steve Weatherford on Thursday morning.

Lanning kicked for the Cleveland Browns from 2013-14 where he appeared in 32 games and punted 177 times with an average of 44.1 yards. Lanning was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 3, 2013.

Lanning spent the summer of 2011 on the Bears’ preseason roster. The former undrafted free agent out of South Carolina is a skilled holder which increases his importance to the club in the event O’Donnell misses Sunday’s game.
