Bears sign Adrian Amos and Tayo Fabuluje, claim OT Paul Cornick

The Chicago Bears agreed to terms with 2015 fifth-round pick Adrian Amos and sixth-round pick Tayo Fabuluje on four-year contracts, and claimed offensive tackle Paul Cornick off waivers, the team announced on Tuesday.

The NFL’s 2015 rookie compensation pool permitted the Bears to offer Amos $493,070 in the first year on his contract. The minimum the Bears were allowed to offer in Year 1 is $481,089.

The 142nd pick of the draft, Amos led Penn State with three interceptions last year. Amos left college with 149 career tackles, seven interceptions, 19 pass breakups, three sacks and nine tackles for loss. A converted collegiate cornerback, Amos is best suited to line up at free safety in the NFL.

Fabuluje is allotted to earn a maximum Year 1 total of $467, 841. The minimum the Bears can offer the 183rd overall selection is $460,368, per the NFL’s 2015 rookie compensation pool.

Fabuluje started 24 games at TCU in 2012 and 2014, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors his senior season. The 6-foot-6, 353-pound offensive lineman missed the entire 2013 season to financially support his sister after their mother went to prison.

Amos and Fabuluje are the first two members of the Bears’ 2015 draft class to agree to terms, but more signings are expected this week before the team holds its annual rookie minicamp Friday through Sunday.

Denver released Cornick on Monday after the former undrafted rookie free agent out of North Dakota State started three games at right tackle and three games as an extra tight end for the Broncos in 2014.

Cornick's departure from Denver was hastened by the Broncos drafting Colorado State offensive tackle Ty Sambrailo in the second round.

Chicago is a logical landing spot for Cornick because of his familiarity with head coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase.
