The Chicago Bears announced Wednesday they signed cornerback Sherrick McManis to a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

McManis just finished up his fifth NFL season, playing in 12 games last season for the Bears, contributing four tackles on defense, in addition to 13 tackles on special teams. McManis also recovered a muffed punt in the team’s 20-14 loss to the Detroit Lions that led to a Bears touchdown.

In 62 career games with one start, McManis has contributed mostly as a special teamer, posting a total of 54 tackles over five years.

The Bears brought aboard McManis originally in 2012 through a trade with the Houston Texans. Since joining the Bears, Mcmanis has produced 38 tackles on special teams, which leads the team since 2012, and five stops on defense to go with a pass breakup and two fumble recoveries.
