Jared Allen sits with bruised shoulder

SEATTLE -- Chicago Bears defensive end Jared Allen will sit out the team’s third preseason game versus the Seattle Seahawks because of a bruised shoulder, the team announced.

Allen missed the Bears preseason opener due to family reasons, but he did play last week when the Jacksonville Jaguars traveled to Soldier Field.

With Allen, the Bears will likely start Willie Young at the defensive end spot opposite Lamarr Houston.

In other news, recently signed wide receiver Santonio Holmes will make his Bears’ debut against the defending Super Bowl champions. Holmes is expected to battle Josh Morgan for the club’s vacant third wide receiver spot, while veteran kick returner Darius Reynaud and Michael Spurlock will try and impress the coaching staff in the return game. Chris Williams was a late scratch with a tight hamstring.

Meanwhile, safeties Chris Conte and Craig Steltz will both make their preseason debuts.

Other players not dressing for the Bears include: Marquess Wilson, Kyle Fuller, Isaiah Frey, Eben Britton, Brian de la Puente and Jordan Mills.

Mills (foot) told reporters on Wednesday that he hopes to be full-go at practice when the team returns to Halas Hall on Monday.
