Benjamin nursing tweaked hamstring

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin is rehabilitating a hamstring injury that likely will keep him out of on-the-field workouts that begin on Tuesday.

Carolina’s 2014 first-round pick tweaked the hamstring more than a week ago. He had to cancel a trip to a North Carolina air force base to undergo treatment.

The injury is not serious and any missed practice time is considered precautionary. It is more of an inconvenience that will keep Benjamin from working with 2015 second-round pick Devin Funchess as Carolina begins the on-field portion of organized team activities Tuesday-Thursday.

It also could work to Carolina’s favor as Funchess, who played all three wide receiver positions during a recent rookie camp, could pick up some of Benjamin’s repetitions.

Benjamin had 73 catches for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns last season after being selected with the 28th pick.
