MLB roundup: Adding Bruce would allow Dodgers to end Puig's stay in L.A.

A trade for Reds right fielder Jay Bruce -- under discussion by the Dodgers' front office -- would give Los Angeles an excuse to dump Yasiel Puig, who has simply lost effectiveness as an offensive player. In his first 104 games in the big leagues, Puig hit .319 with 42 extra-base hits in 432 plate appearances.

But over the past two seasons, Puig has an OPS of .726, with a .255 batting average, a .316 on-base percentage and 43 extra-base hits in 608 plate appearances. Additionally, the short era of good feelings for Puig in the first part of this season has slowly dissipated, with others in the organization hoping for change because they just couldn’t foresee a scenario in which Puig made the adjustments teammates wanted.
