Bills rookie Ross Cockrell sees first defensive action

DETROIT -- Taking a closer look at defensive snaps played by the Buffalo Bills in Monday's 38-3 win over the New York Jets:

Defensive ends:

Jerry Hughes -- 49 of 58

Mario Williams -- 46 of 58

Manny Lawson -- 18 of 58

Bryan Johnson -- 0 of 58 (inactive)

Jarius Wynn -- 0 of 58 (injured/inactive)

Quick-hit thoughts: The Bills dressed just three defensive ends for the game but it wasn't an issue; everyone stayed healthy and the anemic Jets offense was only on the field for 58 snaps. Still, it was a heavier workload for both Hughes and Williams than what they've had in other games this season.

Defensive tackles:

Marcell Dareus -- 32 of 58

Kyle Williams -- 34 of 58

Corbin Bryant -- 24 of 58

Stefan Charles -- 24 of 58

Quick-hit thoughts: The Bills dialed it back for their two big men here, Dareus and Williams. They've been playing upward of 75 percent of snaps in recent games but that dropped to under 60 percent for both Monday. That was another product of the blowout.

Linebackers:

Preston Brown -- 48 of 58

Nigel Bradham -- 42 of 58

Brandon Spikes -- 26 of 58

Keith Rivers -- 10 of 58

Larry Dean -- 8 of 58

Ty Powell -- 7 of 58

Randell Johnson -- 0 of 58 (inactive)

Quick-hit thoughts: The Bills emptied their bench late in the game, even giving Brown -- a rookie who has barely come off the field this season -- a breather. Rivers, who was active but did not play in the loss to Miami, saw some time with the defense.

Cornerbacks:

Stephon Gilmore -- 48 of 58

Corey Graham -- 48 of 58

Nickell Robey -- 31 of 58

Ron Brooks -- 11 of 58

Ross Cockrell -- 10 of 58

Quick-hit thoughts: Cockrell, a fourth-round pick, saw his first action on defense of his young career, subbing in late in the game along with Brooks.

Safeties:

Aaron Williams -- 41 of 58

Duke Williams -- 37 of 58

Da'Norris Searcy -- 34 of 58

Bacarri Rambo -- 10 of 58

Quick-hit thoughts: Searcy got the start but it was Duke Williams who saw more snaps, which was simply a product of him being in the base defense late in the game. After seeing very little time on defense this season, Duke Williams has been eased into the mix this season and came away with his first intercepton. Rambo, who signed last week, saw his first action with the Bills.
