Patriots adding depth to OL as training camp approaches

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- In what has become a common occurrence in the days leading up to the start of training camp, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is making some tweaks to bolster depth in certain areas based on the overall health snapshot of the roster.

One day after releasing linebacker C.J. Johnson and long snapper Christian Yount, the team is signing undrafted rookie tackle/guard Kyler Kerbyson, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

The 6-foot-4, 317-pound Kerbyson, who played at the University of Tennessee, had been invited to try out for the New Orleans Saints and Houston Texans in the offseason.

He started at left tackle for two seasons and recorded 32 repetitions on the bench press during pre-draft workouts. He also figures to get some work at guard with the Patriots.

Starting Patriots tackles Nate Solder and Sebastian Vollmer did not practice during spring workouts, leaving LaAdrian Waddle (left) and Marcus Cannon (right) as the top tandem, followed by Keavon Milton and Cameron Fleming. On the interior, guards Josh Kline (shoulder) and Tre' Jackson (knee) were held out of practice.

The reported signing of Kerbyson could be tied to the readiness of some of those players for the start of camp.
